instagram meluncurkan fitur baru yang diberi nama "instagram live video stories" yang dapat digunakan secara umum oleh para pengguna instagram dengan versi 10.0 ke atas. awalnya fitur ini hanay tersedia bagi para pengguna instagram yang sudah terverifikasi. fitur baru ini melengkapi fitur video instan "snapgram" atau "stories" dengan tambahan fitur "boomerang", sticker, jam dan lokasi. dengan fitur baru tersebut instagram bakal bersaing dengan banyaknya aplikasi live serupa seperti bigo live yang ngetrend di asia atau bahkan layanan video live dari facebook yang merupakan induk dari instagram. sebelumnya dengan fitur video instan, instagram sudah bersaing dengan layanan serupa seperti snapchat, periscope dan vine app.
