Twitter Launches GIF Search for Tweets & Direct Messages

Twitter's introduction of a search function for moving images commonly used on social media prompted users of the website on Wednesday to tweet their own pictures expressing enthusiasm over the feature.

Twitter said on Wednesday in a blog post that users could search and browse a GIF library when composing a tweet or direct message. A GIF, short for graphic interchange format, is a moving image that plays over and over again. It is often used on social media to express users' emotions.

Twitter's Blog Post:

Last year, people on Twitter shared over 100 million GIFs — expressing everything from their mood, to an amazing dunk, to their favorite dance move from a music video. Now, sharing GIFs in Tweets and Direct Messages is even easier with our new GIF search.

Starting today, GIF search will roll out over the coming weeks to everyone around the world on iOS, Android, and twitter.com. To learn more, check out our Help Center

Our GIF search includes all the GIFs you know and love, courtesy of our partners at GIPHY and Riffsy.

“GIPHY delivers real-time GIFs as they happen, helping to power Twitter’s live commentary and conversation,” says Alex Chung, founder and CEO of GIPHY. “GIPHY’s users are creating GIFs for news, entertainment, sports, and expression that can enrich Tweets. We’re excited to work with Twitter to make sharing these GIFs even easier.”

“So much can be expressed with GIFs, and the key is to find just the right one in the moment that quickly and efficiently expresses your emotions,” says David McIntosh, CEO and co-founder of Riffsy. “We’re excited to explore this partnership with Twitter and watch Twitter users discover and share their favorite GIFs in their daily lives.”

Say Good Bye To 8tracks Music Streaming!

Are you a 8tracks listener from the country outside the US and Canada? Bad news from 8tracks Blog, starting February, 16th, 2016 8tracks music streaming will no longer be able to stream by the international listeners.

I'm already join 8tracks starting June 2012 and access 8tracks website, iOS apps and android apps from Indonesia. Until now, I've 52 playlists with 2185 followers.

The best my playlist ever are Top 40 Best Songs of 2012 with 475,063 plays, 23,817 likes and the Diamond certified!  The next Platinum certified playlist is Billboard Hot 100 with 96,616 plays, 4,708 likes and Top 100 On Spotify have 57,477 plays and 2,908 likes.

Follow me on 8tracks http://8tracks.com/tamtomo and listen my plylist!

A CHANGE IN OUR INTERNATIONAL STREAMING

WHAT ARE WE DOING?

On February 16th, we’ll change how listeners outside the US and Canada tune into 8tracks.

We’ll no longer stream from 8tracks’ servers to listeners outside the US and Canada; instead, we’ll offer the ability to tune into playlists on the 8tracks website via YouTube video playback. Unfortunately, listeners outside the US and Canada will no longer be able to stream playlists through the 8tracks iOS and Android apps.

Your 8tracks profile and any playlists you’ve made will not be affected and you’ll continue to be able to stream any playlists with tracks you’ve personally uploaded. All of your playlists will continue to be accessible to listeners anywhere our content is available around the world. You will still be able to make and share playlists with everyone, however, your personal listening experience may be limited depending on which country you are in.

Later this year, we’ll offer listeners outside the US and Canada the ability to tune into all 8tracks playlists through an on-demand streaming partner’s website and native mobile apps.

WHY ARE WE DOING THIS NOW?

In the US and Canada, 8tracks pays royalties to local collection societies for every track we stream. While we’ve neither actively marketed nor directly monetized 8tracks outside the US and Canada, we’re now seeking direct, global deals with record labels to allow our DJs to tap a full music library when curating a playlist; after all, many in our community no longer have local MP3 or AAC files from which to compile programming.

In order to ensure 8tracks’ existence for years to come, we’ve concluded — at least for now — that delivering our programming to listeners outside the US and Canada through a licensed on-demand partner is the best path forward.

We remain committed to bringing 8tracks to a global audience so all can join us in creating and discovering playlists for every taste, time and place.

Facebook Friends Day: Celebrating the Importance of Connections

Facebook is marking its 12th anniversary by releasing a new video feature that stitches together photos of users with their nearest and dearest. The personalized video was released in honor of Facebook’s birthday, which the company has dubbed “Friends Day.”

The video will appear at the top of your newsfeed and pieces together snapshots of you and your friends with comments and captions. Think of it as a video photo album.

If you aren’t satisfied with the video, you can choose alternative images and share the video on your timeline. The new video can be viewed privately or shared with friends.

In January, Mark Zuckerberg asked Facebook users to share their stories of friendship for #Friendsday on Feb. 4.

In a Facebook post, Zuckerberg said "friendsday" is "a moment to celebrate the friendships that have made a difference in your life."

"The acts of friendship, love and kindness we all share on Facebook are changing the world every day in ways we can't fully measure" he wrote. "Sometimes they just make people in our lives feel a bit more loved. Sometimes friendship becomes a force that sets us on a different path in life. Sometimes friendship moves the world." The Lantern Festival marks the 15th day of the Lunar New Year, the last day of the Spring Festival, and one very bright day for the night sky.

Guest Doodler Patrick Leger chose to honor this day with a tribute to the lighting of paper lanterns, which speckle the night sky on this special occasion. The lanterns represent a smooth transition into the new year and the shedding of one’s past.

A master of operatic performances in French, German, and Italian, Tamaki Miura was the first internationally heralded Japanese soprano. She was best known for her role in Puccini’s Madama Butterfly, which she performed for enraptured audiences over 2,000 times in theaters from London to San Francisco. As one critic for The Evening Post noted after a 1920 performance in Chicago, her artistry was sensational both “vocally and dramatically”, and “many [in the audience] were in tears.”

Happy Statehood day, Serbia! Today's Doodle celebrates Дан државности, which is Serbia's National Day. Doodler Alyssa Winans and the Serbia team choose to commemorate today with a painting of the famous rock towers of "Devil's Town" or Đavolja Varoš (Ђавоља варош). These unusual formations were sculpted by volcanic eruptions across southern Serbia's sandy soil, near the village of Механе. The government of Serbia has designated these formations national monuments, and they are a symbol of the natural beauty of the Serbian countryside.

475 Anniversary of Santiago City Foundation

A lot can happen in the 475 years of a city’s existence. Since its foundation on February 12th, 1541 by Spanish conquistador Pedro de Valdivia, Santiago de Chile has emerged as a cultural icon and landmark city of South America. It's now the sixth largest city on the continent, with just over 5.5 million people.

The city was originally named after St. James, the patron saint of Spain. The name Santiago actually derives from a colloquial Latin pronunciation of St. James: Sanctu Iacobu. That’s why St. James in English is Santiago in Spanish. Write that one down for your next trivia night.

Happy Lunar New Year!

Lunar New Year is celebrated in many countries such as China, Korea, Mongolia, and Vietnam. Though not officially used in the United States, the lunar calendar plays an important role in global timekeeping.

The calendar is marked by the Shēngxiào or Chinese Zodiac, which is used to predict health, wealth, and compatibility. You've probably heard of the animal designations prescribed to various years: rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, sheep, monkey, rooster, pig or dog. Each year is also associated with one of five fixed elements: wood, fire, earth, metal, or water.

2016 is the year of the Fire Monkey, which is the 9th in the 12 year cycle of the zodiac. The monkey sign represents quick-wittedness and smarts, and people born under it are thought to be adaptable and flexible in their thinking.

Lunar New Year 2016 (Vietnam)

The celebration of Lunar New Year in Vietnam, known as Tết, often spans several days. Following the new moon, the streets are thick with the crackle of firecrackers and cry of various percussion instruments to chase away nefarious spirits and welcome happiness and opportunity. This time is also reserved for visiting with family, friends, and teachers, and spreading the joy and hope of a fresh new year.

When she was born in 1875, Františka Plamínková's native country of Czechoslovakia was already embroiled in the debate on women's role in society. She was deeply involved in community organization and and furthering the cause for women's suffrage. A brilliant teacher, journalist, and debator, Plamínková, nicknamed Plamka or "a small flame," stoked the embers for Czech women's suffrage.

Weiberfastnacht 2016

Fat Thursday is a traditional Catholic Christian feast marking the last Thursday before Lent and is associated with the celebration of Carnival. Because Lent is a time of fasting, the next opportunity to feast would not be until Easter. Traditionally it is a day dedicated to eating, when people meet in their homes or cafés with their friends and relatives and eat large quantities of sweets, cakes and other meals usually not eaten during Lent. Among the most popular all-national dishes served on that day are pączki in Poland or berliner, fist-sized donuts filled with rose marmalade, and faworki, French dough fingers served with lots of powdered sugar.

Celebrating Frederick Douglass

Frederick Douglass was an African-American social reformer, abolitionist, orator, writer, and statesman. After escaping from slavery in Maryland, he became a national leader of the abolitionist movement from Massachusetts and New York, gaining note for his dazzling oratory[4] and incisive antislavery writings. He stood as a living counter-example to slaveholders' arguments that slaves lacked the intellectual capacity to function as independent American citizens. Even many Northerners at the time found it hard to believe that such a great orator had once been a slave.
