In addition to catching a Bulbasaur, Charmander, or Squirtle, it is also possible to obtain a Pikachu as your starter Pokemon.
Step #1 - Walk Away
When first spawned, there will be a Bulbasaur, Squirtle, and Charmander within catching distance. Walk away far enough so that they are no longer within visible distance. Once out of visible distance, they will respawn again.
Step #2 - Repeat
Repeat until the three starters respawn 4-5 times. Around the 4-5 time, there'll be a ripple that signifies a Pokemon's presence but with no Pokemon above it, tap it a few times and a Pikachu will appear.
After weeks of waiting, Pokémon Go has finally been updated, adding some hugely anticipated features while also completely removing the step counter. If you’re struggling to build your Pokémon posse because your Pokeballs are curving all over the place, Jon Cleaver has created a simple but brilliant iPhone case that serves as a guide for your finger to keep launches dead-straight, and vastly improve your monster capturing skills in Pokémon Go.
Is it cheating? Who cares? This isn’t a relaxing afternoon game of Scrabble we’re talking about. This is Pokémon Go. One day elections will probably be decided by who leads the most gyms, and if you don’t start stockpiling your pocket monsters now, you’ll be a nobody in a few years.
So head over to My Mini Factory where you can download the plans for this Pokeball aimer for free. You’ll just need to supply the 3D printer, and an iPhone 6 since that’s the only smartphone it’s designed to fit.
If you're a Pokemon GO player living in a metropolitan area, chances are you're surrounded by Pokestops and Gyms. For those in more rural areas, though, stocking up on items by visiting Pokestops or duking it out at Gyms proves to be a little more difficult. That might all be changing soon, as Niantic has given Pokemon GO players the tools to suggest locations that would make for good Pokestops or Gyms.
To suggest a Gym or Pokestop locations, players need to fill out a form on Niantic's Pokemon GO support site. It's there that they'll be asked to give a reason for wanting to add that particular location to the already long list of Pokestops and Gyms, with one of the options being "No Pokestops or Gyms near me." This will be a great help for people who want to play the game but are limited in what they can do because they live in lower population areas.
On the other hand, if you have a Pokestop or Gym located on your personal property, you can also use this form to request that it be removed. Ever since the launch of Pokemon GO, we've heard stories from folks who have discovered that their house is a Gym or Pokestop, with some being more tolerant than others of the inevitable groups of Pokemon trainers showing up on their property. Just as well, if you see a Pokestop or Gym that's in a dangerous location, you can use this form to report it and possibly get it removed. Finally, players can use the form to report stops or Gyms that no longer exist or any issues they're having with Gym battles.
It's great to see Niantic offer up this form to Pokemon GO players, but it would probably be best to temper your expectations, as the company does ultimately have the final say in whether or not Pokestops or Gyms are added to the game. Still, having a resource available to request the removal of locations that shouldn't be flagged in the game will be a welcome relief to homeowners who don't like the fact that Pokemon GO players are visiting their houses in droves.
You can find submission form to make a request right here.
Pokemon Go is well on its way to taking over the world. That being said, some players find the whole Pokéwalking thing quite a bother. If exploration and exercise aren’t really your thing, there’s always the Pokédrone.
Tech start-up TRNDSLabs has refitted one of its nano-drones to hack the massively-popular game: simply connect via WiFi and the Go app will use the Pokédrone’s GPS and camera, allowing players to fly their way over to those creatures that are just out of reach.
Head on over to TRNDSlab’s website if you’re interested in receiving more info on the device’s availability.
It’ll be interesting to see how long this concept lasts: on the one hand, remote Pokémon-catching may help prevent the car accidents and incidents that have sprung up as a result of the app’s release; on the other, Nintendo and Niantic will almost definitely penalize and bounce users for gaming the system.
An awesome video has emerged of a group of engineers using a drone to play Pokemon Go.
The footage, captured on Sunday in San Diego, CA, USA, shows the men building a drone capable of playing the new augmented reality game.
"Tired of walking around to capture Pokemon, our team of engineers and Pokemon enthusiasts built a quadcopter capable of capturing the little monsters from the Sky," member of the team Radley Angelo wrote online.
"The rig is 100 per cent functional, and we managed to snag three Pokemon from the air," he added.
As well as catching pokémon in their natural habitats, like car parks, churches, and by the trolleys at the supermarket, you can also hatch them from eggs.
First off, you want to get yourself an egg or two, and to do that, you need to visit pokéstops. If you keep getting pokéballs, just persevere.
When you start out you’ll find an egg incubator in your inventory. It has unlimited uses but can only incubate one egg at a time, so if you find that eggs are scarce, it’s not too much of a problem as the incubators are even more so.
You can buy additional incubators in the shop, or receive them as a reward for levelling up. With the exception of the infinite use incubator you start out with, they have three uses before they break. As you start to collect more eggs, you might want to drop some pokécoins on a couple more.
There are three types of eggs, each with an attached distance requirement you have to meet before they hatch – bear in mind that you can’t cheat by driving (unless you’re going at the speed of a milk float), so you’ll need to walk, cycle, or utilise some other form of really slow transportation to travel either 2km, 5km, or 10km to hatch them.
The distance you cover applies to all of eggs that you have incubating, so have as many on the go as you can. You may want to do them in batches of equal distances, or mix and match to have a guaranteed new pokémon every 2km.
The more common pokémon are found in the 2km eggs, with the rarest in the 10km, while the largest variety can be found in the 5km eggs. Be sure to have your app open or you will have wasted all of that time in the fresh air for nothing.
Of course there’s an element of chance involved in what kind of pokémon will come bursting out of an egg, but we’ve sorted them by egg type so you’ve got a better idea of what’s in store.
Pokémon Go is a free-to-play augmented reality mobile game developed by Niantic for iOS and Android devices. The game was released in July 2016. The game allows players to capture, battle, train, and trade virtual Pokémon who appear throughout the real world. Although the game is free-to-play, it supports in-app purchases. An optional wearable device that works alongside the game, called the Pokémon Go Plus, will be released in the future as a separate purchase. The device uses Bluetooth connection to notify users when a Pokémon is nearby with an LED display and light vibration.
After logging into the app for the first time, the player has the opportunity to create an avatar. The player can choose the avatar's gender, hair, skin and eye color and can choose from a number of outfits. After creating the avatar, it will be displayed at the player's current location along with a map of the player's immediate surroundings. Features on the map may include a number of Pokéstops and Pokémon gyms. These are typically located at popular meeting places, such as memorials, places of worship, parks and tourist attractions.
Players have to walk around in the real world to move their avatar in the game. Different Pokémon live in different areas of the world; for example, water-type Pokémon are found near water.
When a player encounters a Pokémon, they may view it in either Augmented Reality mode or with a pre-rendered background. AR mode utilizes the camera and gyroscope on the player's mobile device to display an image of a Pokémon as though it were in the real world. Players can also take pictures of the Pokémon using an in-game camera that they encounter both with and without the AR mode activated.
Unlike other installments in the Pokémon series, players in Pokémon Go do not battle wild Pokémon to capture them. Rather, the game relies on a unique capture system where the player must throw a pokéball with the right force and at the right time to make a successful catch. After capturing a wild Pokémon the player is awarded two types of in-game currencies: candies and stardust. The candies awarded by a successful catch depends on what evolutionary chain a Pokémon belongs to. A player can use stardust and candies to raise a Pokémon's "combat power" (CP). However, only candies are needed to evolve a Pokémon. Each Pokémon evolution tree has its own type of candy which can only be used to evolve or level up. The player can also transfer the Pokémon back to the Pokémon Professor to earn one more candy and create room for more Pokémon.
Players earn experience points for a number of in-game actions. As the player earns experience points, they will raise in level. At level five the player is able to battle at a Pokémon gym and join one of three teams (red, blue or yellow) which act as larger factions within the Pokémon Go world. If a player enters a Pokémon gym that is controlled by a player that is not part of their team, they can challenge the leader to lower the gym's "prestige". Once the prestige of a gym is lowered to zero then the player will take control of the gym and is able to deposit one Pokémon to defend it. Similarly, a team can upgrade the prestige of a gym under their control by battling the gym leader.
